I WENT ON A TRIP AND FORGOT TO TAKE MY ALIGNERS WITH ME. WHAT NOW?

TROUBLE SHOOTING From DIGITAL ORTHODONTICS - Solo Edition by Dr. Bak Nguyen

That's a bad start. If you have the previous or the next set in hand, you should move to either one of them, after noticing your attending. If you do not have any in hand, that will be a more complicated.

The next course of action will depend on how long you are travelling. If you are looking at a few days to a week, you will have to wait for your return. Putting back your aligners will hurt as they are pulling back your teeth in place.

It will be for you and your attending to evaluate the course of action. But within a week, you would have enough time to get your aligners of their replacement shipped to you.

If your trip is a much longer one, to contact your attending will be the first thing to do. Your attending can order replacement aligners and have them shipped them to you. That usually will take weeks to be made and to arrive.

All will depend on what are your plans and how long you are travelling. A cheaper alternative will be to ask a member of your family to ship your trays from home. That will at least save you the fees and delays of the re-manufacturation of the replacements.

Now, the worst-case scenario is that you are travelling for a long time and do not have the luxury to have your aligners or their replacement shipped to you. Well, you will still need to contact your attending.

At your return, chances are that your old aligners won't fit at all. Your attending will have to rescan your month and start a new treatment from where you will be at that point. Yes, extra fees will accompany these procedures.
