WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VIVERA AND INVISALIGN RETAINERS?

RETENTION From DIGITAL ORTHODONTICS - Solo Edition by Dr. Bak Nguyen

The leading brand in the field of digital orthodontic, invisalign, provides 2 solutions to maintain the teeth after the treatment. From the patient's perspective, there are both the same, having to wear a clear retainer to sleep with.

On the manufacturing end, the invisalign retainers are made from the last set projected at the end of the treatment, minus the attachments. It is like wearing the last set to sleep with in the long run. That is great, but there is a more precise way.

Vivera retainers are also manufactured by invisalign. The difference is that dentists have to proceed to a 3D scan at the end of treatment to make the clear retainers. This is more work, more fees, but it allows more precision. If the patient has dental works as crowns or veneers after their orthodontic treatment, scanning the mouth is the only way to capture all the dental works and improvements.

Personally, I offer the recontouring of the teeth after each of my orthodontic treatments. Doing so, it allows my patients to have a, as close to perfect, smile as possible. This is why I often will have to proceed with a final 3D scan after the end of the orthodontic treatment to manufacture customed-fit retention for my patients. Those are called Vivera retainers.

In short, invisalign retainers do not need a new scan. Vivera retainers are more precise and will require a new scan. Both are made from the same company.
